Made in Prague: The New Czech Cinema UK Tour

7. 7. 2015 - 28. 9. 2015
24 cinemas in 17 cities across the UK

Made in Prague, a biennial UK showcase of contemporary Czech cinema, is back for the fifth time with five titles crisscrossing the UK. Capturing the country's dramatic past and its influence on contemporary life and culture, five internationally acclaimed films tour 24 UK venues. BURNING BUSH (Hořící keř), a mesmerising docudrama by Polish/US director Agnieszka Holland (Europa, Europa; In Darkness), portrays the Czech experience after the 1968 Soviet invasion of the country and draws on her personal experience while Andrea Sedláčková's FAIR PLAY is an intimate study of a young female athlete caught in a web of state sponsored doping. In the contemporary psychological drama HONEYMOON (Líbánky) by Jan (the Oscar-nominated Divided We Fall) Hřebejk about buried secrets the happiness of the central couple is threatened when an uninvited wedding guest questions the groom’s past. Miroslav Krobot’s humourous debut NOWHERE IN MORAVIA (Díra u Hanušovic) focuses on eccentric characters looking for love and living an isolated life; whereas in Martin Dušek's fascinating and sensitive documentary INTO THE CLOUDS WE GAZE (K oblakům vzhlížíme) it is car tuning which substitutes for love and lack of opportunities for the main character.

Czech Showcase @ Fringe 2015

7. 8. 2015 - 30. 8. 2015
Edinburgh: ZOO Southside, Dance Base, Summerhall and Underbelly Circus Hub

Czech Centre London is proud to once again organise the Czech Showcase at Edinburgh Fringe 2015 with a selection of some of the very best contemporary Czech dance and theatre. Over the years Czech performances at the Fringe have done very well in an enormously competitive and talented field, winning a string of awards, nominations and glowing reviews. This year we bring four critically acclaimed pieces that have also been the audience favourites during their previous tourings. The magnificent new circus company LA PUTYKA will perform their stunning cross-over of dance, acrobatics and theatre DOLLS in the out-door Underbelly Tent, one of the most popular Fringe venues. Physical theatre will be represented by SPITFIRE COMPANY and their ANTIWORDS, an adaption of Vaclav Havel‘ s play involving two masked female dancers and plenty of beer on stage. CORRECTION, the Czech Dance Platform 2013 winner created by VERTEDANCE is full of amazing dance movement and humour, and beautifully accompanied by The Clarinet Factory quartet. And last but not least, the intimate and emotionally charger duet BOYS WHO LIKE TO PLAY WITH DOLLS, in which two brilliant dancers TEREZA ONDROVÁ and PETER ŠAVEL play around with gender stereotypes.
