Miroslav Krobot will introduce his debut film at ICA

10 NOVEMBER 2014 - One of the highlights of the Made in Prague Festival is definitely the visit of Czech film and theatre actor and director Miroslav Krobot, whose debut Nowhere in Moravia (Díra u Hanušovic) will be shown in ICA on 11 November. Miroslav Krobot's fans will be able to ask him questions about the film and his experience in theatre and film after the screening.

Miroslav Krobot is a Czech theatre director and film actor. He was born in 1951 in Šumperk, Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). After he graduated from the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno (JAMU, Brno), he worked as a theatre director in theatres in Cheb, Hradec Králové and at the National Theatre in Prague. He created the ensemble  based at Dejvické Theatre, which soon became one of the most visited theatres in Prague. He is also known as a film actor,  starring in Béla Tarr’s Man from London and Alois Nebel. He is one of the most acclaimed  and distinctive of contemporary Czech directors.

NOWHERE IN MORAVIA (DÍRA U HANUŠOVIC)

Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), Cinema 1, The Mall, London SW1Y5AH
Miroslav Krobot, CZ 2014, 102 min, Engl. Subtitles
With Tatiana Vilhelmová, Lenka Krobotová, Ivan Trojan and Johanna Tesařová
Thirtysomething Maruna runs the local pub and lives with her sister and domineering mother in this deadpan portrait of village life. With few eligible men around she sleeps with the blundering mayor and the promiscuous roofer, while looking for love. Opening with a funeral and closing with a murder, Krobot’s darkly humourous debut presents eccentric characters living an isolated life in a forgotten place of grim beauty, wonderfully captured by actors from his award- winning Dejvice Theatre Company.
