Czech Centre London Commemorates the Centenary of WWI

29 SEPTEMBER 2014 - WWI began 100 years ago and is being commemorated throughout the world. Czech Centre London is mounting War Photographers, a unique collection of pictures by three outstanding Czech photographers, soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Army, whose collections of negatives and prints have remained unknown for almost ninety years. The exhibition is accompanied by the documentary Czechoslovak volunteers in World War I (1914 – 1918) dedicated to the members of the Czechoslovak Legion. On 13 October there will also be a debate between Christian Ortner, Director of Vienna’s Museum of Military History and Czech military historian Eduard Stehlik. The Austro-Hungarian Empire at War: On the Eastern Front and at Home will take place at the Austrian Cultural Forum London and will explore not only the military aspects of the conflict but also how the successes and failures were perceived and reflected back home.
