The Herald Angel Award 2013 goes to Spitfire Company

On 10 August, the Czech dance company Spitfire Company & Damúza Theater received the Herald Angel Award 2013 for their performance One Step Before the Fall. Dancer Markéta Vacovská and singer Lenka Dusilová received the award from producer John Lloyds during a ceremony at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre hosted by Keith Bruce, the artistic editor for The Herald. Congratulations!

Critics awarded the performance, devoted to the boxer phenomenon of Muhammad Ali and to all people who fight the Parkinson’s disease, for the overwhelming physical performance by Markéta Vacovská accompanied by Lenka Dusilová’s music. “Every performance means living Muhammad Ali’s life once again. Given the number of performances, it is a lot of lives but we always give the performance one hundred percent.” Markéta Vacovská commented on her performance when awarded the Herald Angel.

The Herald Angels have been awarded since 1996 across all festivals taking place in Edinburgh during August. The Herald critics choose the best from Edinburgh International Festival, The Jazz & Blues Festival, The Edinburgh International Book Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Herald Angles are awarded four times during the festival. Czech artists managed to succeed in the competition of 24000 performers who come to Scotland from all over the world.
