Correction by VerTeDance thrilled British audiences at Birmingham’s BE FESTIVAL and won two awards

6 JULY 2015 - Contemporary dance piece Correction by Czech company VerTeDance had its British premiere last week before heading off to Edinburgh Fringe. For the first time in BE FESTIVAL’s history, CORRECTION went up against 20 other European companies and won two prizes at once; the Audience Award and the MESS Festival Award.

Correction also received an invitation to MESS festival in Sarajevo and to the touring project “Best of BE”, which visits fourteen 14 UK venues in spring 2016. Correction will go to Edinburgh Fringe exclusively for 9 shows in ZOO Southside having previously been presented in Spain, Germany, Poland etc.

In Correction, seven performers convulse without moving, walk without making a single step, reluctantly long for freedom, lovingly hate each other and blindly look for a way out. Everything is pushing off, tipping and falling; yet every imbalance is corrected and brought back to an equilibrium. The cast weave around their own shadows whilst a live modern minimalist soundtrack by Clarinet Factory builds a fluid tension. Will they discover the world beyond their own comfort zones? Will they be able to deal with this newfound world?

"The movement of the dancers was precise, agile and evocative, and perfectly orchestrated according to the thematic progression of the piece. It was brilliant."

Correction is part of the Czech Showcase @ Fringe 2015, organized by the Czech Centre London.

The dance company VerTeDance was founded in 2004 by the trio Veronika Knytlová and Tereza Ondrová, two dancers and choreographers, and Pavel Kotlík, a light designer. These were for Silent Talk in 2005, What is the Weight of Your Desire in 2012 and for Correction in 2014. www.vertedance.org

Clarinet Factory
Imagine a music workshop or laboratory in which clarinet, classical music education, a touch of ethno, jazz and a bit of minimalism are all mixed together. You discover a taste for improvisation, buy the most modern electronics and technology, invite interesting guests and then begin researching and creating a production to communicate with the audience.
A particular genre will emerge from this newly formed environment that can have various things in common with the established term ‘crossover’, but more appropriately should be expressed as „music without borders". www.clarinet-factory.cz
