Marek Šindelka in residence at Hawthornden Castle

Czech writer Marek Šindelka has been selected for a four-week residential fellowship at Hathornden Castle in Scotland. Šindelka, winner of 2006 Jiří Orten Award for Strychnine and Other Poems and 2012 Magnesia Litera, The Best Czech Prose for Stay Tuned and 2017 Magnesia Litera, The Best Czech Prose for Material Fatigue, will work during the residency on his next novel Truck (working title).

Hawthornden Castle, The International Retreat for Writers
Established 1982 to provide a peaceful setting where published writers can work without disturbance. The Retreat houses five writers at a time, who are known as Hawthornden Fellows. Writers from any part of the world may apply for the fellowships. Previous winners include: Les Murray, Alasdair Gray, Helen Vendler, Olive Senior, Hilary Spurling.

The residence will take place from 18 November till 15 December 2018. It is organised by Hawthornden Castle and supported by the Czech Centre and Arts Institute in Prague.


Hawthornden Castle
