Martin Blažíček in London

20 JUNE 2015, LONDON. Czech video and filmmaker and an audiovisual performance artist Martin Blažíček is coming to London to talk about Czech Underground Cinema of the 80s at Open City Documentary Festival and to take part in no.we.are 10, a late night party for artists, radicants, friends, fugitives & time travellers celebrating 10 years of no.w.here.


ABOUT MARTIN BLAŽÍČEK (1976)

Martin Blažíček is currently teaching at the Centre for Audiovisual Studies at FAMU, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. His interest lies primarily in filmmaking, particularly videos, tableaux vivants, interactive objects and the use of experimental techniques in film animation. He also organises events focused on experimental film. Blažíček has curated NoLab at the NoD Experimental Space in Prague (2007–2009), the ScreenLab series at Školská 28 Gallery, Prague (2010–12), and The Hole at a site-specific sound gallery (2013). His articles have been published in the Czech journals Cinepur, A2, Film a Doba, among others. As well as working on his own, Blažíček has also performed with various groups, including Ultra (2000–2002) and Mikroloops (2007–2011), and with other individuals, such as Steven Ball and Kateřina Zochová. Blažíček’s work has been presented at MAK Vienna, Lux London, City Gallery Leeds and many other galleries.

The final addition to thaumatropic project. Capturing the light at the endge of moving images. 11 sequences, app 1 minute each: Signal, Center, Volkswagen, Ritual 1-2, Departure, Shapes (red), Shapes (yellow, blue), Projectile, Ok-Jet and Level. Single channel video or multiple installations.
