Běla Kolářová at Adventures of the Black Square: Abstract Art and Society 1915 – 2015 in Whitechapel Gallery

A major exhibition tracing a century of Abstract art from 1915 to today opened at the Whitechapel Gallery in January and features 2 works by Czech artist Běla Kolářová. The exhibition brings together over 100 works by 80 modern masters and contemporary artists including Piet Mondrian, Eva Hesse and Isa Genzken.

Once upon a time - Czech Fashion at the International Fashion Showcase

Immerse into a world of long forgotten fairy tale landscapes inscribing at times poetic, at times witty and sometimes even haunting stories into fabrics, furs, metals, skins and gems. Once upon a time presents women, men and children’s wear and accessories created by five young Czech fashion and jewellery designers.

Defiance and Compassion -  The Films of Věra Chytilová

A rebel, feminist and critic of contemporary society: some of the many labels attached to the leading lady of the 1960s Czech New Wave, Věra Chytilová . The British Film Institute in London is holding its first ever retrospective of her work in March 2015.

A treat for all fans of great Czech comedian Vlasta Burian and a star of the silent cinema Anny Ondra. Svatopluk Inneman's  1927 restaured  gem of a slapstick comedy will be accompanied by a new score performed live by music ansemble Neuveritelno.

European Literature Night

ELN is an annual literary showcase initiated by the Czech Centres and bringing the best of the continent’s writers and contemporary European literature to the UK. Now moving into its seventh year, the ELN 2015 will be a series of events, including four events at the British Library and the ELN Translation Pitch at Free Word Centre.

7 – 30 August 2015
Following the hugely successful Czech national presentation at the 2008 and 2013 Edinburgh Fringe, the preparations are well on their way for yet another showcase of the best of Czech dance and theatre at this largest arts festival in the world.
