2019 British Czech & Slovak Association Writing Competition

The BCSA’s 2019 writing competition is now under way, so do have a go yourself or encourage someone else to enter.

1989 – 2019 is of course the 30th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution. So ‘1989’ is the suggested optional theme. You can interpret ‘1989’ as you wish: before and/after, causes and/or effects, then and now, or just what happened in the year itself. Think laterally, use your imagination.

Fiction or fact – either is welcome.  The first prize of £400 and the second prize of £150 will be awarded to the best 1,500 to 2,000-word pieces of original writing in English on either (a) the links between Britain and the lands now comprising the Slovak and Czech Republics, at any time in their history, or (b) society in transition in the Republics since 1989.  Topics can include, for example, history, politics, the sciences, economics, the arts or literature.

For full details including submission guidelines and last year's winning entry see https://www.bcsa.co.uk/2019-bcsa-writing-competition

Entries must be received by 30 June 2019.
