The Czech chamber ensemble "Academia Wind Quintet Prague" was founded at the Prague Conservatory in 1971. In just a few years it made a name for itself among both the musical public and experts alike. In 1974 the ensemble were prizewinners in the Performing Arts Contest of Chamber Ensembles organized by the Czech Ministry of Culture, and at the same time it also won the Czech Music Foundation Prize.

 

The Academia Wind Quintet Prague has given at concerts in many Czech and Slovak towns and cities. They have achieved great success in numerous performances at international music festi- vals in Czech Republic and abroad, for example in Salzburg, Vienna, Berliner Festspiele, Lisbon, Kuhmo (Finland), Kerkrade (Holland), Turin, La Coruna (Spain), Ankara International Music Festival, Algiers, Pyongyang, Okinawa Moon Beach Festival, and International Music Festival Prague Spring, as well as recitals in the main music centres of the world: London, Tokyo, Moscow, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Madrid, Barcelona, Seoul and other cities.
