Invisible movements → apparitions inserted into the myriads of industrial products → flowing one over the other. Magical captivity needs no weapons → it usurps → it binds, impeding each contest.
The twenty-first century is turning out to be a unique mixture of incompetence and brilliance → of state-of-the-art technology and primitivism → of softness and brutality. The twenty-first century is a landscape of swords and magic. The world has become coarse, ignorant, and at the same time wonderfully sophisticated → intelligent. All of this can coexist.

Artist Talks 4pm

Czech artist Aleš Čermák has been selected for Czech Centre London Residency at Gasworks which runs till 26 June 2017 and it is organised by Gasworks and supported by the Czech Centre and Arts Institute Prague. The Gasworks residencies are opportunities for self-led professional development, artistic exchange and experimentation.

Aleš Čermák creates publications, exhibitions and performances that follow the movements of structures and systems within a globalised socio-political context. The body acts as the locus of these investigations, as a fundamental element of performance but also generally as a subject, object, quasi-object or quasi subject, as a tool, a source and victim of violence, and, lately, as an obstacle, a boundary. His projects are predominantly process-based and take the form of open systems that have the potential to modify and develop themselves in a manner akin to a body or organism.
