An Exhibition on Polish and Czech Fighter Pilots of the Second World War

The Tangmere Military Aviation Museum is running an exhibition on the Polish and Czech Fighter Pilots in the Second World War, particularly focusing on the pilots and squadrons that fought from the Sussex airfields. In addition to famous Polish pilots the exhibition will feature three famous Czech pilots, Josef Frantisek, Karel Kuttelwascher and Josef Dygryn (the latter two served in 1942 at RAF Tangmere).

Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, Air Officer Commanding Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain, praised the gallantry of both the Czechs and the Polish, saying, “… they swung into the fight with a dash and enthusiasm which is beyond praise.”

The exhibition will include stories of the heroism of Polish and Czech pilots, models of their aircraft, medals of some of the ‘aces’, art work and a film of their time in Britain, many thousands of miles away from their homes in occupied Poland and Czechoslovakia.

Entrance to the exhibition is included in the normal Museum entry fee.
Adult £9, Senior £7, Child (under 16) £3, Family (2 adults and 2 children) £21

A booklet on Polish and Czech Pilots in Sussex will be available to purchase at the Museum – price £2

Opening times: Mon - Sun 11am - 4pm (except Sunday 6 August)
