At the Heart of Central Europe: Great Writers And The Ruptures of the 20th Century

A panel discussion celebrating the launch of Penguin’s Central European Classics, an innovative series which presents great writers from the region including Karel Čapek, Ota Pavel and Josef Škvorecký. The discussion will investigate the inheritance of the 20th century, the transition from Eastern to Central Europe and transnational culture over 100 years.

 

Among those participating at the seminar will be HE Dr Michal Žantovský, Czech Ambassador to the UK; HE Dr Emil Brix, Austrian Ambassador to the UK; writer and academic, Eva Hoffman; Dr Rajendra Chitnis, Senior Lecturer at Bristol University.

The event will provide an opportunity to discuss the books and their context with the panels of speakers.
