BackStories to premiere at Alfred ve dvoře

London-based performance company Beautiful Confusion Collective will premiere the full-length version of their new production BackStories at Prague’s Alfred ve dvoře Theatre in April 2015, following a creative residency at the theatre. This will be a return to the Czech Republic for BackStories, which had its first creative residency at Cooltour Multidisciplinary Centre for Contemporary Art in Ostrava last year.

Co-created and performed by Becka McFadden and Scheherazaad Cooper with dramaturgy by Mary Ann Hushlak, BackStories is a journey into the expressivity of the back. What stories does the back tell of who we are and where we’ve been? What secrets does the spine whisper? What weight do the shoulders carry?

BackStories premiered in short form at Resolution! 2015 at London’s The Place in January and has previously appeared at the Lilian Baylis Studio, Sadler’s Wells as a work-in-progress showing. Before travelling to Prague, BackStories will be hosted for  two-week residency at Vyrsodepseio in Athens, Greece.

Beautiful Confusion Collective is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter to support work on BackStories in Prague and Athens. “It takes daring to perform for 25 minutes with your back turned to the audience but Scheherazaad Cooper and Becka McFadden wove a fitfully mysterious magic in BackStories, the spine replacing the face as the centre of emotional expression.” - Keith Watson, Dance Critic

BackStories is supported by: Arts Council England; Canada Council for the Arts; Goldsmiths, University of London; and University of Roehampton.
