Screening of Martin Blazicek's excellent film Popis obrazu / Image Description (2003) will be one of the highlights of the programme Reflections on Identity at Brief Encounters - 11th Bristol International Film Festival.
The festival will be showing over 200 shorts from thirty countries. One of the strands is entitled Without Boundaries. It is a currated programme of European Artists’ Film & Video and there will be shown three programmes of work therein: In Different Spaces, Weight of History and Reflectios of Identity where Blazicek’s film will be shown.
Reflections on Identity
Contemporary society revolves around the individual; the world can be understood through the conflicts and tensions we find there. Work in this program reflects on notions of individual and collective identity – through language, nationality, the media and images that purport to represent us. Studies of self definition sit alongside explorations of how we co-exist in our increasingly diverse and multi-cultural world.
Popis Obrazu / Image Description
dir Martin Blažíček, Czech Republic, 2003, 11min
Image Description investigates the changing urban landscape. The relationship between language and image reflects the elusive nature of cities and their inhabitants. This double portrait, of the people and place, is an “urban operetta in six languages.”
