Thomas Messer - My Life with Guggenheim

Czech National Trust (CNT) celebrates the 5th anniversary of its launch in London with an introduction of the project “Ticket to the New World “ and screening of the masterpiece film "Thomas Messer - My life with Guggenheim" - a Christmas special with wine and mince pies to set your mood up for Christmas!



  • Welcome and CNT update by Dr Irena Edwards, Chairman
  • Short introduction to the project "Ticket to the New World" by its curator Eva Heyd, Head of Projects
  • Screening of the film "Thomas Messer - My life with Guggenheim" (2007, 52 min, English subtitles) by the famous Czech film maker Jana Chytilova
  • Wine and mince pies 

Thomas Messer, the Czechoslovak émigré, was a much loved director and revered curator who led the Guggenheim Museum in New York for almost 30 years and built it up to the famous institution it is today. 

The project “Ticket to the New World”, in which the film featured prominently, documents extraordinary lives of 16 Czechoslovak émigrés, who left their country for the US at the outbreak of World War II and made a significant impact on the American cultural scene.
