Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra invites you to a programme of Czech music by Martinu and Dvorak. Paul  Silverthorne will be joining us for a performance of Martinu's "Rhapsody-Concerto" for viola and orchestra. When he played this piece in New York, it was described by an American music critic as "a luxuriant work, lovingly performed."  Paul Silverthorne is one of the UK's foremost viola players. He holds the principal positions in both the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Sinfonietta and appears regularly as a soloist with these and other major orchestras around the world.

Our concert will begin with an overture by Martinu, written the year after the Concerto. Antonin Dvorak was the composer who put Czech music on the map. He was particularly fond of folk music and incorporated it into his vital and tuneful works. We will be playing the 7th Symphony in D minor. Dvorak said of it "”What is in my mind is Love, God, and my Fatherland”. Join us on Saturday 13th October at St. James' Church, Piccadilly for a feast of Czech music.
