Curatorial season at Delfina Foundation: Lucie Drdová

Czech Centre London and the Arts and Theatre Institute - Artists in Residence Programme are supporting Czech gallerist and curator Lucie Drdová at her winter season residency at the Delfina Foundation.

Lucie Drdova (Czech Republic) is a gallerist and curator. She runs the Lucie Drdova Gallery in Prague, established in 2012, and which primarily works with young to middle-aged Czech and Slovak artists. Lucie is interested in the institution of the private gallery and critically challenging the classic model of its functioning.

During her residency Lucie will make contact with UK-based curators and art world professional to speak with them about their practices and the functioning of their various institutions, focusing on how this information can help support artists' professional development in the international context.

Lucie Drdova graduated in art history and German literature from Masaryk University in Brno where she presently continues her PhD studies. In 2007, she studied at the Institute of Cultural Management and Cultural Studies (IKM) at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In 2007 to 2008, she attended a residency programme in the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna. In 2008 to 2010, she worked as curator of the Jiri Svestka Gallery in Prague and as director of its Berlin branch. In 2010 to 2012, she was co-organizer of the Jindrich Chalupecky Award and lecturer at the Studio of New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Since June 2012 she has run Lucie Drdova Gallery in Prague.

Delfina Foundation (DF) is more than London’s largest international residency programme – it is a home where the next generation of contemporary artists, curators and thinkers are supported and nurtured. Based in two newly renovated Edwardian houses near Buckingham Palace, DF is an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering artistic talent and facilitating exchange through residencies and public programmes ranging from workshops to exhibitions, both in the UK and with international partners.

Established by arts philanthropist Delfina Entrecanales CBE, DF is the successor to Delfina Studio Trust. From 1988 to 2006, Delfina Studio held an unprecedented record for supporting artists through residencies and exhibitions, including more than a dozen Turner Prize nominees such as Mark Wallinger, Jane & Louise Wilson, Tacita Dean or Martin Creed. DF is proud to build on this history. Working internationally DF has hosted artists from 18 different countries over the last six years with a soft focus on practitioners from the greater Middle East and increasingly South Asia. We have commissioned new artworks and programmes, often in partnership with leading institutions including Tate, Victoria & Albert Museum, Serpentine Gallery and Frieze Art Fair in the UK, as well international organisations.

The residency is supported by the Arts and Theatre Institute - Artists in Residence Programme www.idu.cz/en/
