Ryba´s Czech Christmas Mass was first performed at Midnight Mass on 24 December 1796 in Czech language. Although nowadays performed usually with an orchestra, it was composed for an organ, accompanied by traditional folk instruments. A musical symbol of Czech Christmas, this beautiful oratorio, commonly known by its first words ´Hey, Master´, resounds from hundreds of churches and magically conjures up the idyll of old-world Christmas with snow-drifts and starry skies. The Emmy Destinn Foundation in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in London offers you the chance to experience a unique interpretation of this Christmas classic.
