Czech Open 2012 Installation at the Czech House

Czech Centre London presents the best of Czech Open 2012 projects at our stand at the Czech House during the Olympics. Come and look back at some of the most exciting projects of the season such as the model train carriages which were transformed by emerging and established British and Czech artists as a part of Disorient Express London - Prague.

This exhibition presents cultural and educational projects of Czech Open 2012, the Czech cultural season in London. Between March and August 2012, as the largest Czech cultural presence in the UK in many years, it has offered a variety of programmes set in the Islington borough, where the Czech House is based during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

From 1912 to 1952, the modern Olympics were organised around their original ideals of combining a healthy spirit, creative mind and  healthy body, just as they had been in ancient Greece. Olympic contests included not only sporting events, but also the five Olympic Art Competitions in the creative arts: painting, sculpture, architecture, music and literature. These ideals and rituals made the Olympic Games  an institution celebrated  throughout the history and they still represent inspiring values today.
Czech Open 2012 embraces such a spirit: a unique celebration and partnership providing a platform for projects that combine culture, sport, education and business through attractive programmes for general and professional audiences. The season has been conceived as a broad collaboration of local artists, schools, cultural institutions and children with Czech artists, designers, musicians, filmmakers and pupils and it presents many new, original and commissioned artworks.

Czech Open 2012 is organised by Czech Centre London in collaboration with the Czech Olympic Committee, Islington Council, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the UK, the City of Prague, Czech British Chamber of Commerce, the Business Design Centre, Czech School Without Borders in London and other partners. Czech Open 2012 is generously supported by Pilsner Urquell and Hornby.

This event was part of Czech Open 2012, the accompanying cultural programme of the London Olympic Games 2012 organised by the Czech Centre London in collaboration with the Czech Olympic Committee, the City of Prague, the Islington City Council, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the UK and other partners.

The Czech Open season presented dozens of Czech artists, designers, musicians and many more who, in collaboration with their British counterparts, created projects for London-based galleries, cinemas, festivals and community spaces between March and August 2012.

Czech Open 2012 was the largest and most visible presentation of Czech culture in the UK in the last decade.
