Czech Roots: BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts

Immerse yourself in the the rhythms, melodies and folk roots of Czech music, written by composers who drew inspiration from a rich legacy of national tunes.

Running parallel to Sir Simon Rattle's exploration of Czech music, and the folk traditions behind it, with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican, this series of BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts at LSO St Luke's takes a look at solo and chamber music by Czech composers.

Friday 10 May 2019 1–2pm

Chloë Hanslip and Danny Driver
Piano and violin are paired in this concert, opening with Janáček's extraordinary Violin Sonata - at times jagged and unusal, at times shimmering and bright. Music by Suk and Schulhoff completes the programme.

LSO Wind Ensemble
'It would be difficult to discover a finer, more refreshing impression of really abundant and charming creative talent.' So said Johannes Brahms of Dvorák's Serenade for wind instruments, here performed by the LSO Wind Ensemble.

Friday 14 June 2019 1–2pm
