Design Beyond Sight

An interactive showcase of Czech design prototypes and research products for visually impaired people.

It is enough to visit a shop selling aids for visually impaired people to realise how much contemporary design owes this area. It is not a question of designing new and unnecessary things, but of responsible design of items needed for everyday life.

This exhibition shows the innovative results of a programme of training and investigation where design students from the Czech and Slovak Republics were invited to participate in the project. Exhibited designs cover a wide variety of objects, from utilitarian artefacts to porcelain and textiles.

The aesthetic importance equalled that of its usefulness and objects are intended to be enjoyed by sighted and blind alike at this internationally touring inclusive exhibition, which resulted from the final selection of students' entries and is being regularly updated and completed.
