The Diamond Vaults exhibition celebrates the highly original yet little known medieval creation of vaulted ceilings so complex in their architecture that, as their name suggests, they resemble the facets of a cut gemstone.
A widespread feature of Central European architecture, they exist in locations as far apart as Gdansk; Bechyne, in southern Bohemia (now the Czech Republic); and Meissen, Germany. Their visual appeal is startling and highly contemporary; architecturally they offer extremely impressive examples of complex geometrical experimentation. The exhibition will include models and archival photographs as well as newly commissioned photographs by architectural photographer and AA tutor Sue Barr.
