Czech Dance and Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe 2014
Following last year’s Czech dance success with two Herald Angel Awards for the Czech Dance Showcase, Czech dancers are returning to the biggest theatre festival in the world to introduce three UK premieres: Riders, La Loba and Six Billion Suns.
Both Riders and La Loba were produced by Lenka Vagnerová &
Company. Lenka, whose work Man Hunt was a hit at the 2011 Fringe, is the
choreographer for both performances. RIDERS was awarded Dance Piece Of The Year
at the 2013 Czech Dance Platform
Festival. It explores the theme of tolerance and the ability to coexist
with other organisms on our planet. More...
The more intimate LA LOBA combines two genres and two stage personalities – Andrea Opavska, dancer and Jana Vebrova, singer. The show is inspired by their wild energy, synchronisation and above all the intensity of their expression. Key to the piece about a mythical woman is original music by Ivan Aucher inspired by the sounds of nature. Andrea's performance won the Dancer of the Year Award at the 2014 Czech Dance Platform. The last of the three Czech shows is SIX BILLION SUNS directed by Eva Rysova. The
story about the extinction of personal universes is inspired by Alzheimer‘s
disease, one of the most common serious illnesses of later life. Members of
D'EPOG theatre interviewed Alzheimer’s patients from Prague’s Czech Alzheimer
Society to gather material and experiences. More...
