Czech Series of Concerts at the Royal Academy of Music

This year’s chamber music festival The Royal Academy of Music focuses on the great heritage of Czech music, featuring works composed over less than a century. The rhythms, melodic patterns and idioms of Czech folk culture are never far away, whether in the fully-fledged romanticism of Smetana and Dvořák, the idiosyncratic individualism of Janáček, or the rhythmic complexity of Martinů. Uninhibited and sometimes unrefined emotional intensity is at the core of this great music, and finding both connections and contrasts will doubtless be one of the fascinations of the series.
