Czech Series: Autobiographical Contrasts

Smetana’s Quartet no.1 ‘From My Life’ encompasses both the ecstasy of his young love and the catastrophe of his impending deafness. Martinu’s Parisian jazz pastiche, La revue de cuisine, contrasts vividly with the virtuosic rhythmic complexity of his Violin Sonata no.3, written in America in 1944. This event is part of the Czech Series of concerts at The Royal Academy of Music.
