Eva Jiřička in The Performance Studio

The first of a series of performances by Czech artists, created in collaboration with the London curatorial team of The Performance Studio. The early work of Eva Jiřička will be unveiled, along with a completely new project created during her residence in London. The project focuses on the topic of older people living in the multicultural London district of Peckham, who are also involved in her performance. Eva Jiřička, born in August 1979, lives and works in Prague. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and in Vienna. Most recently she has focused on working with video, although her studies at the Academy began as a painter in the studio of Jiří Sopko.

On Tuesday 14 June Eva Jiřička will present I'll try to repeat after you, a new audio work developed in Peckham in 2016.
Jiřička will then discuss her work and wider practice in conversation with Markus Vater, tutor in Fine Art (Performance) at the Royal College of Art.

Programme:

8pm Launch of Eva Jiřička’s new work, I'll try to repeat after you.
8.30pm Eva Jiřička in conversation with Markus Vater

Eva Jiřička
, born in August 1979, lives and works in Prague. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and in Vienna. Most recently she has focused on working with video, although her studies at the Academy began as a painter in the studio of Jiří Sopko.

Her work often features themes such as the understanding of others and the relationship between the layperson and the art community, probing the boundaries by the individual, the social dimension of public spaces, and confronting the various social entities and monitors that limit the potential of interpersonal relationships. The project uses investigative and experimental techniques. Over the last two years, Jiřička has developed a long-term project with the collaboration of seniors to explore the existential aspect of topics directly affecting human life, its finality, relationships, memory and social values. I'll try to repeat after you is the first solo presentation of Jiřička's work in London.
