How is national identity constructed? By looking to, or rejecting the past? By differentiation from neighbouring countries? Director Zuzana Piussi, well known for highly political documentaries for which she has faced imprisonment, examines her fellow countrymen's current notions of nationality through the tragicomic stories of several protagonists. While contemplating the sources of contemporary Slovak national pride, Piussi raises concerns about the fragile nature of identity and the fact that it can so easily be politically misused, a vital issue not only for Slovakia.

The bizarre case of Olomouc bus driver Roman Smetana, who received a jail sentence in 2012 for drawing antennae on politicians' heads on pre-election posters, caused an uproar in Czech society, and raised questions about the Czech legal system and judicial mechanisms. The humorous documentary not only captures Smetana's frustration at the political situation, the wave of incredible support his case created, and the comments and reactions of his colleagues, fans and politicians but also shows the filmmakers taking a very strong personal stand.

This screening will be followed by a discussion with journalists Ondrej Kundra (Respekt) and Edward Lucas (The Economist)
