Arnošt Goldflam's Obsession at Theatre Café Festival

Theatre play Obsession by Czech playwright and director Arnošt Goldflam will be part of this year’s Theatre Café Festival in Woolwich. Goldflam, who is widely known in his homeland as playwright and actor, will also join the audiences for a panel discussion. Obsession will be presented within Industry Symposium which aims to present new European plays to young audience and industry professionals.

Arnošt Goldflam is not only a fabulous Czech playwright and director but throughout his career he's worked in almost all theatre-related roles. A. Goldflam is considered one of the most significant contemporary theatre playwrights who has greatly contributed to  Czech theatre. Obsession: Standa is thirteen and likes to hide. He is obsessed with escape and endurance. In the past his mother hid from the Nazis in a wardrobe, and now Standa prepares for an all-day-long catastrophe survival.

During this event Company of Angels will present extracts from 6 new European plays in rehearsed staged readings to London audience. Theatre Café festival is taking place at The Tramshed in Woolwich, in partnership with Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre (GLYPT) and the University of Greenwich.

Theatre Café came to life in 2004 with readings of 12 plays from across Europe at the Arcola Theatre, London. In the ensuing 11 years Theatre Café has become an influential movement for the translation and distribution of new plays for young audiences in the UK and beyond. To date Company of Angels has run 10 successful Theatre Cafés, presenting a total of 60 plays from 21 European countries involving 51 writers and 35 translators; and commissioning 27 new translations. Many plays read at a Theatre Café have gone on to receive full productions in European countries including the UK, Holland, Germany, Italy, Finland, Hungary and Estonia.
