Cutting It Short (Postřižiny)

A much loved classic piece of Czech cinema tells delightful comic story based on writing of Bohumil Hrabal, in which Menzel and Hrabal recreated the world of Hrabal's childhood in Nymburk's brewery in the 1920's. The peaceful family harmony provided by balance between his charming, outgoing and emancipated mother and carnest but shy and reserved father is shattered by unexpected arrival of uncle Pepin, a loud storyteller and globetrotter. A great film comedy full of lyricism, imaginative exaggeration, grotesque situations and attractivaly looking beer. Director: Jiří Menzel; Czechoslovakia; 1980; 93'; Cast: Magda Vašáryová, Jiří Schmitzer and Rudolf Hrušinský.
