Jan Bocan – Architect

A retrospective exhibition of the Czech architect Jan Bocan (1937 - 2010) whose work and pedagogical activities have influenced the next generations of Czech architects. In 1971 Bocan received the Architecture Award for London Region from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for realization of the Czechoslovak Embassy in London. Jan Bocan is also one of the architects of the main train station in Prague and a number of other Czech embassies around the world. Part of Open House London.

Jan Bocan was an influential Czech architect and lecturer. In 2006 he was granted the title ‘professor’ by the President of the Czech Republic.

As a young architect and member of architect Karel Sramek’s Atelier Beta Prague Project Institute, Jan Bocan was assigned to elaborate a study of a representative office in London and together with his colleague Karel Stepansky ended up being the main architect of the new Czechoslovak Embassy which was granted the prestigious RIBA Architecture Award in 1971.
