Katerina Seda: Lisen Profile
Museums Sheffield host an ambitious new artwork by Czech artist Katerina Seda, brought to the Millennium Gallery thanks to the first ever Contemporary Art Society Annual Award. Katerina Seda is an acclaimed contemporary artist whose work often touches on ideas of community, memory and collective identity.
In this new commission for Museums Sheffield, Lisen Profile, Katerina has worked with hundreds of Czech volunteers in a search for those individuals who best reflect the physical profile of her home town, Líšeň. The extraordinary process behind this artwork will be revealed alongside the 500 drawings and book which have resulted. Established to mark the Contemporary Art Society's centenary, the new Annual Award supports the commissioning of new artworks destined to join public gallery collections.
In particular, the Award will support relatively established artists like Kateřina, whose major works have not yet been acquired by public collections.
Katerina Seda's work recently appeared at the Millennium Gallery as part of Art Sheffield 2010.
