ABOUT LENKA DUSILOVA
Lenka Dusilova, a five time Angel Award winner, doesn’t like to sit still or repeat herself. An extraordinary phenomenon of the Czech music scene, she has evolved from the position of rock and pop star to a level of personal development, freely drawing from a range of musical styles and personal experiences.
She was born December 28, 1975 and by the age of 16 was fronting the Czech rock band Slunicko. She also later cooperated with the popular band Lucie and its sister band Pusa.
Early in her solo career she was awarded the title ‘Singer of the Year’ by the Academy of popular music’s annual Angel Awards. This honour was followed by a series of successful albums and cooperation with the band Cechomor. Her third solo album Between Worlds, recorded in San Francisco with renowned American musicians and produced by Ben Yonas, earned several Angel Awards in 2005.
Connections with leading personalities of the emerging Czech jazz community (Vertigo Quintet) or a serendipitous encounter with the musical personality, pianist Beata Hlavenkova (Clarinet Factory) led to the esteemed and remarkably eclectic album Eternal Seekers for which Lenka received her fourth Angel Award from the Academy of popular music as ‘Singer of the Year’ in 2008.
Her fourth solo album, ‘Baromantika’, recorded with Beata
Hlavenkova + Tin Soldiers, yielded a unique musical landscape oscillating
between seething and frigid acoustic-electronic environments. Baromantika
earned Lenka her 5th Award as Singer of the Year’ in 2011 and is currently nominated for best music by the new Apollo
Awards.
