Libor Šmoldas & Nigel Price: UK tour

Two superb award-winning jazz guitarists, Brit Nigel Price and Czech Libor Šmoldas, team up for a UK tour starting on 17th June in the British mecca of jazz, Ronnie Scott's, in London. Accompanied by drums and bass the two musicians par excellence perform their guitar magic across the country. Price blends flowing bebop lines, deep blues sensibility and a mastery of chording which combines perfectly with Šmoldas's smooth melodic approach and slight touch of the blues, soul jazz and groove. This tour is about as good as jazz can get - an experience truly not to be missed.

Nigel Price
Over a career spanning more than 25 years, award winning jazz guitarist Nigel Price has become widely acknowledged as one of the hardest working musicians in the business. His career highlights include a support show for Gladys Knight at The Royal Albert Hall and an appearance on Van Morrison’s album Keep Me Singing.
Starting his professional career in his early 20s, Nigel toured Europe with various reggae and funk bands before settling on a solo guitar career and turning his attention to jazz. Citing early influences as Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Nigel honed his craft by attending gigs and sitting in with the players of the time. He has played on more than 50 albums including five as a leader, spent ten years with acid jazz outfit The Filthy Six, was a member of James Taylor’s band for 3 years (with whom he recorded 5 albums) and performed with the legendary David Axelrod. He has also taught at The International Guitar Foundation at King’s Place, London.
He has worked tirelessly to organise his own tours (including a 56 date tour in late 2016) and has picked up a Parliamentary Jazz Award (Best Jazz Ensemble, 2010), a nomination for a British Jazz Award (Best Guitarist, 2014) and a British Jazz Award (Best Guitarist, 2016) along the way.

Libor Šmoldas
Libor is a Prague based jazz guitarist and composer. Besides top Czech and European musicians he has worked and recorded with international stars such as George Mraz, Jeff Ballard, Sam Yahel, Bobby Watson, Adam Nussbaum, Brian Charette, Jay Anderson, Stephen Keogh and more.
Šmoldas is an established group leader, and important for the new generation of Czech players. His recent releases are Soulmates: Story Unfolds (new Port Line 2018) with Brian Charette on Hammond organ and drummer Tomas Hobzek, “Lay It Down” (New Port Line, 2017), “On the Move” (New Port Line, 2017) with his NYC Trio with Jay Anderson and Adam Nussbaum, and “Dreamtime” with the same trio and label in 2015. Previously, he recorded “18 days 2000 miles” (2012, New Port Line) featuring the American saxophonist Bobby Watson, known from Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. His first recording as a leader with some of NY’s finest, the drummer Jeff Ballard (of the Brad Mehldau Trio), and the acoustic bassist George Mraz (a Czech emigre who lived and played with many of New York’s finest) is called “In New York on Time” (2010).
He has worked and recorded on numerous occasions as a sideman for Hal Tsuchida, Skip Wilkins, Bob Montgomery, Ingrid James, Bill Warfield, Zeuritia, Robert Balzar. While playing with Ondrej Pivec and his Organic Quartet, the band was awarded with Andel award for best jazz recording of the year.
In spite of his being awarded a scholarship to Berklee School of Music in 2005, he decided to stay in the Czech Republic and studied Advanced Secondary Studies department of the Jezek Conservatory of Jazz and Music and Janacek Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno.
In spite of his young age is Libor widely considered to be one of the best jazz musicians in the country and a leading representative of his generation.
