Made in Prague: Little Birds, Orphans and Fools

A film by Slovak director Juraj Jakubisko follows three drop-outs searching for happiness and freedom in this surreal utopia. Stylistically Jakubisko's most dazzling work, it was seen as an allegory and immediately banned. Part of Made in Prague: Czech-O-Slovak Film Series 2013. Supported by the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in London and the Slovak Film Institute.

After the Prague Spring, drop-outs Yorick, Andrej and Marta, whose parents were murdered by Nazis, Communists and Jews respectively, reject the cruelty of adulthood by playing out games of free love in a derelict house populated by stray dogs, birds and a drunken old man before setting off on a road trip. Tragically, jealousy and cruelty gnaw away the walls of this surreal utopia of searching for happiness and freedom. Stylistically Jakubisko’s most dazzling work, it was seen as an allegory and immediately banned.
