Launch of a Book by Michal Mares: The Angel-maker

First published in Prague in 1922, this dark, concise novel set in Czechoslovakia in the early 20th century explores, with anarchist undertones, the place of women in society. Now published as a Czech-English parallel-text by Jantar Publishing which aims to publish a variety of Central and East European works of literature that have been forgotten and are awaiting re-discovery.

Introduction to the even will be given by Peter Zusi of UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies, followed by panel discussion featuring David Short, translator and Dr. Rajendra Chitnis of the University of Bristol. Questions are invited.
Wine and nibbles will be served.
