London Philharmonic Orchestra Family Concert

Antonin Dvorak Symphony No.9 (From the New World). No excuse is needed to hear one of the most popular pieces of music ever written.

The world has just commemorated the 100th anniversary of the death of the Czech composer Antonin Dvorak and there's no better bit of Dvorak than this symphony!

When he went to New York to run the Conservatoire, Dvorak was amazed at the songs and melodies he heard.

The Ninth Symphony completed when he was in New York (which is why it is known as 'From the New World') is full of music 'in the spirit of American folk melodies'. In today's concert, the movements of the symphonies are interspersed with traditional and contemporary gospel songs sung by a choir drawn from London's diverse communities.
