A Blond in Love & Closely Observed Trains

Second Run DVD and Arrow Video present a special double bill screening of two acknowledged masterpieces of the Czech New Wave - Miloš Forman's influential A BLONDE IN LOVE and Jiří Menzel's Oscar-winning CLOSELY OBSERVED TRAINS.

Widely regarded as one of the great films of the 60s, Miloš Forman's subtle and beautifully observed bittersweet romance is also a wry social satire.
A Blonde in Love unfolds as a sweetly seductive film but Forman is able to distil universal truths from the simplest of situations and present them with a sharp yet compassionate eye. It remains a tender and beautifully observed story about the seemingly impossible odds of young romance and youthful aspiration under totalitarianism.
Aided by Miroslav Ondríček's wonderful camerawork, and with Ivan Passer (director of Intimate Lighting) as assistant director and co-scriptwriter, the pleasures to be gained here are immense.

"If I had to pick just one film, it would be A Blonde in Love"
Ken Loach, Movie Heaven - The Guardian

Screening with Jiří Menzel's Closely Observed Trains (Ostře sledované vlaky) - the 1966 Oscar-winner for Best Foreign Language Film.
