Capricious Summer

Swift, funny, and very Czech, this is a delightful comedy based on Vladislav Vančura’s novel. Three middle-aged friends meet at the height of an uninspiring overcast summer to philosophize on the meaning of life, faithfulness of women and the moodiness of weather. The arrival of a magician-acrobat (Jiří Menzel) and his pretty assistant serves as a catharsis when they start to woo her, competing with each other. A movie classic, full of beauty, poetry and fantastic acting.
