Marek Schovanek: Fragmentation
Two parallel exhibitions of stark drawings and vibrant paintings by Marek Schovanek, an inspired Czech artist/curator living in Berlin.
“Schovánek brings together seriousness, autonomy, irony and a critique of omnipresent, global, globalized and globalizing capitalism in a light-hearted simultaneity. The subtext that guides his work is the meandering between the systems, the casual stroll along the fault-lines of recent history. Life and art are full of possibilities, eventualities and decisions that keep us in permanent motion. Every one of his presentations is dominated by the momentum of dissecting images and their interpretations. With this sleight of hand, the artist keeps producing new images that deflect the viewer's perceptions, now in one direction, now in another. A smiling advertising icon, a poured picture, a stylized landscape; a mutant, a canvas with an abstract, blue grid pattern, a St. Hubertus symbol - these are the components with which Schovánek keeps on writing his visual novel. Over and over again, and always new.”
