Master Jan Hus Familiar and Unfamiliar - A song recital by Daniel Dobiáš

To mark the 600th anniversary of the martyrdom of John Huss at Constance in 1415, the singer and composer Daniel Dobiás has set to music a number of late medieval and Renaissance poems which he will perform himself. His sources include Thomas More, Macchiavelli, Shakespeare, François Villon and Michaelangelo, and the songs will be interspersed with evocations of the life and times of the priest who gave up his life for his beliefs, proclaiming "Truth shall prevail!"

Daniel Dobiáš's songs have been performed by leading Czech and international singers and he has been responsible for many an innovative musical event. He will be familiar to those who attended a memorable recital at the Czech Embassy in 2010, when, together with Professor Martin Hilský, he presented the latter's translations into Czech of a selection of Shakespeare sonnets.

Free admission for members of the BCSA, £5 for non-members.

Registration is necessary for all by e-mail to bcsa@bcsa.co.uk or by telephone 020 8795 4875.
