Insight with Michael Žantovský: Havel and the Velvet Revolution

On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution Havel's journey from dissident playwright to Czech national leader and his legacy will be discussed by H.E. Michael Žantovský, Czech ambassador to the UK, author of the definitive biography of Václav Havel, Havel: A Life (published by Grove Atlantic in November 2014). His former press secretary and longtime friend, Žantovský, one of the founding members of the movement that coordinated the overthrow of the communist régime in 1989, will reflect on the event and the man behind it.

Moderated by Edward Lucas, a senior editor at The Economist, who covered Central and Eastern Europe for more than 20 years, witnessing the final years of the last Cold War, the fall of the Iron Curtain and the collapse of the Soviet empire, Boris Yeltsin’s downfall and Vladimir Putin’s rise to power.
