Havel: A Life - A Talk by Michael Žantovský

H.E. Michael Žantovský, Czech ambassador to the UK and author of the definitive biography of Václav Havel, Havel: A Life (published by Grove Atlantic in November 2014) talks about Havel - an intellectual, playwright, philosopher, President and a key figure of the 20th century.

Michael Žantovský was one of his closest friends. He was among the founding members of the movement that coordinated the overthrow of the communist regime and in January 1990 became President Václav Havel’s spokesman, press secretary and adviser. He has combined a career in politics and the foreign service with writing and translating the works of many contemporary British and American authors into Czech. Havel is his latest book.

Thanks to Žantovský’s truthfulness, Havel emerges from this account as a great national leader whose greatness was inseparable from real humility and grace.” Roger Scruton, The Times
