Mozart in Prague

No city loved and honoured Mozart more than Prague where the popularity of his music made him a celebrity. The Prague Philharmonia frames its concert with the striking overture Mozart composed just the night before the opera’s premiere, and his sweeping ‘Prague’ Symphony over which hovers the theatrical spirit of Don Giovanni.

Both works were premiered at Prague’s beautiful Estates Theatre, as was Mozart’s heart-meltingly serene Clarinet Concert, played here by Emma Johnson. The Bohemian Josef Antonín Stepán, a prolific composer of keyboard concertos, was one of Mozart’s few rivals in that form. Come and hear why...

'Emma Johnson walks onto a concert platform and suddenly transforms herself into an expressive instrument of sublime beauty.' The Guardian
