Projecting Czech History: 1918 – 2018

A series of ten film screenings including fiction films, documentaries and archive footage illustrating ten key events which have shaped Czech society within the last ten decades. Accompanied by introductions and discussions with events participants, creative voices and leading thinkers and historians from the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom.

Film highlights include A Prominent Patient, Julis Sevcik’s take on Jan Masaryk, Czechoslovak Foreign Minister 1940 – 1948 and former ambassador to the UK, a record breaking film with 12 Czech film Awards; Lost in Munich by Petr Zelenka, a successful comedy about the 1938 Munich crisis and winner of two Czech Film Critics Awards; and a political thriller The Confession featuring Yves Montand and Simone Signoret by the Oscar winning director Costa-Gavras following the true story of Czech communist minister tried for treason in the political show trial.
