Internationally renowned for the energy, creativity and the integrity of their interpretations, the Sacconis have developed a reputation as one of Britain’s outstanding young string quartets. The four young players return to Folkestone for a third year of exceptional classical concerts and outreach activity.
This year the Festival brings a flavour of Bohemia to audiences with music from great Czech composers including Janacek, Smetana, Suk and Dvorak. It promises to be a weekend of world-class music from the Sacconi Quartet and special guest artists including pianist Alasdair Beatson, violist Jiri Zigmund and the Badke Quartet.
Highlights include an evening of Czech Gypsy Jazz and a specially commissioned ‘literary overture’ written by playwright Justin Pearson. The work is based on the love letters composer Janacek wrote to his muse Kamila Stösslová and inspired his second string quartet “intimate letters”. The work will be performed by legendary actor Timothy West followed by a performance of the quartet itself by the Sacconis.
The Sacconi Quartet will also take part in a festival outreach programme designed to take classical music to those who might not otherwise be able to come to classical concerts. The programme consists of school workshops and family concerts, as well as projects in prisons, refugee centres and care homes.
