How scary are contemporary fictional narratives? Do ‘things still go bump in the night’?

 

 

And My Head Exploded’ - Tales of Desire, Delirium and Decadence in fin-de-siècle Prague, a collection of tales from late 19C and early 20C Bohemia featuring plague-carrying prostitutes, heads exploding in cemeteries and several cases of pre-modernist existential angst.

‘Dogs and Others’ by Biljana Jovanović - The protagonist in Dogs and Others is the first openly lesbian character in modern Serbian literature.

Join Peter Zusi, Geoffrey Chew and Susan Curtis as they discuss ‘scary stories’ written in different eras exploring notions of terror and witness.
