Daisies at the BFI

A couple of rebellious girls wreak havoc across a range of formal gatherings in this joyful 60s film. Chytilová described her film as ‘a philosophical documentary in the form of a farce.’ It’s about pleasure as a form of protest: Marie I and Marie II are two self-confessed hedonists who wreak wanton havoc across a range of official gatherings, creating confusion and chaos. The energetic female exuberance and rebellion against societal and gender conformity is a sheer joy to behold.
