Czech Design at London Design Festival: Brokis at Design Junction
Based in the Czech Republic, BROKIS produces exclusive glass lighting created by outstandingly skilful artisans who continue the age-old Bohemian glassblowing tradition. Its original lighting collections are designed by world-renowned Czech and international artists and have won numerous awards in prestigious design competitions. The company’s portfolio features modern, functional lighting fixtures, decorative objects, and unique lighting solutions for architects and interior designers.
During Designjunction fair the company is showing the new collection entitled Lightline by renowned Czech designer and Brokis Art Director Lucie Koldová as well as several other new items, such as the stylish variable lights Flutes, a new wall version for last year’s Mona collection, and new material and color options for the existing exclusive lighting series.
LIGHTLINE – latest
collection a celebration of glass
Lucie Koldová, 2015
The Lightline series of glass lighting celebrates the beautiful utilitarian value of glass in every component. The concept of a luminous line is illustrated in the design through the etched plane of the blown-glass body set in the base made of blown-glass, which forms a translucent weight to anchor the lamp. A line of light is projected from the profile of the object when the light source casts its glow upon the upper plane of etched glass, which in turn appears as a thin line of light emanating outward from the side.
The lamps represent a
collection of table projectors that cast a light of intimate character, the
luminous line gently poised above the transparency of the glass body.
FLUTES – variability and style
Lucie Koldova, 2015
The Flutes collection was
created as a suspension lighting project for hotel spaces. Their artistic
potential and utility value both go far beyond the boundaries of the project
specifications. As the name suggests, the simple and elegant elongated conical shape
resembles the form of a flute. The stylized openings not only allude to the
source of inspiration for the design, they also fulfill a practical function –
the variable cut of their edges for the suspension cable means that the angle
of the entire lamp can be adjusted with ease. Flutes are available in several
colors, including grey, opaline, and strong orange. The Flutes collection
comprises three types of lamp depending on the angle of tilt.
MONA WALL – new enjoyment from lighting
Lucie Koldova, 2015
Mona Wall is the latest addition to the exclusive Mona collection. It joins the existing table, floor, and pendant versions and naturally sustains the singular character of the collection while, at the same time, expanding it with an entirely new type of light.
Mona Wall will be available in the same color variations as the other lights in the Mona
collection – transparent, opaline, smoke-gray, and transparent black.
NIGHT BIRDS – bringing poetry to everyday life
Boris Klimek, 2015
...like the silhouette of birds in the evening sky.
Inspired by the grace and freedom of bird flight, the original Night Birds
ceiling lights bestow a poetic charm and unprecedented dynamism to your
interior. The lights do not merely hang in space – they fly. They provide you
with the freedom of flight in creating variable compositions ranging from
several individual lights to entire flocks of birds. The glass shades, formed
to depict wings in various phases of flight, together with the pleasant, gentle
LED illumination, bring the ambience of your favorite space to perfection.
New materials and colors for current lights
Mona Pendant – leather straps
At Designjunction, Mona Pendant (by Lucie Koldová) will be appearing for the first time in Great Britain sporting leather suspension straps. Among the probable production color variations are deep red, black, light grey, beige, and deep blue.
