The European Design Show
From McLaren Mercedes' world-beating Formula One racing cars and the first chair to be made with rapid prototyping technology, to the best-designed books, magazines and websites, the Design Museum celebrates the most exciting innovations in design in Europe in The European Design Show.
By exploring every area of design - from fashion and furniture, to beautiful books and latest advances in multimedia - the show will showcase a selection of the most compelling developments in contemporary design.
Some entries will be chosen for aesthetic reasons or for innovative technology. Others for functionality, sustainability, inclusivity - or for fun.
The following Czech designs and designers are included:
Samorost by Amanita Design
Rooted in the classical tradition of European animation Samorost is an interactive flash game unlike any other. Designed by Jakub Dvorsky one has to navigate one’s own path through Dvorsky’s surreal world populated by strange creatures and rockets made out of old sausage cans.
Mole Game by Jitka Petrova
This charming computer game for children was Jitka’s diploma project in 2004 at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. She is hoping to publish the game with a picture book for children.
Twist: Cognac glasses by Rony Plesl
Using traditional Czech glass techniques Rony Plesl provides an interesting interpretation of the classic cognac glass. Its wide shape and solid base results in a very satisfying shape.
Water Bottle candles by Qubus design
One of the most innovative design shops in Prague is Qubus, located in the historic city centre. Its focus is contemporary Czech design and these candles shaped like water bottles are the playful invention of Maxim Velcovsky – one of the most dynamic graduates of the Prague Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design.
